Tips/FAQs

Pocket Kitchen Timer for Pocket PC 2003 (PK Timer) supports simultaneous timing for up to 5 different items which you can label with a short description, such as "Heat grill", "Asparagus", "Steaks", "Clean grill":  Useful in the kitchen or by the outdoor grill, especially when preparing multiple items that need to be done at the same time.

New in V 1.1.2, power off your PDA while timing and PK Timer will power it up automatically to sound an alarm*.

Timing can be a very simple duration countdown: Enter the hours and minutes duration, start the timer, and it counts down, showing time remaining and sounding an alarm when ready.

Timing can also be a more advanced "Start By" time calculation. You can set a future time you want an item to be "Done By", and the duration is used to compute a "Start By" time. PK Timer will "wait" and notify you when it's time to start the item.

After timing has been started, you can "tweak" the settings, such as adding 10 more minutes for the roast. PK Timer also includes a Time to Cook Calculator, based on weight..

PK Timer will save your current settings when the the application is closed so you can create your settings and plan in advance.

Check our Tips and FAQs on more complex timing situations, such as how do I time a turkey to brown for an hour at a higher temperature then roast the remainder of the time at a lower temperature? You should be familiar with the basic operations of the timer as discussed in the online Help.

The Trial version is FREE, NEVER EXPIRES, and supports one timer.  Try it and upgrade your kitchen technology!

Pocket PC 2002 users can run PK Timer with Microsoft .NET Compact Framework installed.

*To make sure you hear the alarm, turn the device's sound volume to the maximum.  Also, adjust your Power Settings to allow for at least 2 minutes before powering off while on battery. PK Timer will wake up the PDA to sound the alarm, but power settings could cause the device to turn off again if you don't hear the alarm.

A noisy environment or a protective carrying case will affect the audibility of the alarm.

Note for Pocket PC 2002 Users

While Pocket Kitchen Timer is specifically for Pocket PC 2003 (or Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003), it can be run on Pocket PC 2002 ARM or XScale systems which have installed the Microsoft .NET CF (Compact Framework) runtime.

The complete .NET CF download is approximately 14 MB but it includes runtimes for all possible hardware. The install file for Intel ARM processors is approximately 2.5 MB. The setup program will correctly identify the processor and automatically install the correct runtime.
