SAMPLE NATIONAL
DEBT
This worksheet computes the National Debt and US
Population for a future date. It then uses a Loan
Payment calculation to determine the Monthly Debt
Payment/Person to pay off the National Debt within 30
years of the future date (assuming the Debt total
"freezes" after payment starts).
This example explains how to modify baseline data,
loan parameters, and the date. Basic understanding
of the calculator is assumed. The SampleBudget
worksheet is a good introduction to basic
calculator concepts.
BASELINE
DATA
First we entered some baseline values which will
be "Used" later in the worksheet.
Each entry is followed by a CLEAR (C).
This is a simple technique to create a set of defined
values which can be "Used" later in one or more
places. If we want to change the values, we just
need to change them here, and the calculations Using
them will be automatically updated.

To change the population growth rate, tap the row
below labeled "Every N Seconds" to select it. This
is the number of seconds it takes for the population to
increase by one person.
Tap the Edit button. Change the value to the current
value. Tap the Enter button to complete the Edit.

Here you can change the future date for projecting
a new National Debt amount.
Tap the row labeled "Future Date" to select it. Tap the

NOTE
Date results, such as the number of days difference
computed above, must be "Used" outside of a date
context, because the date context restricts
operations to + and -. We want to multiply the number
of days by average daily increases.

PAYMENT
Next we calculate the monthly payment by each US
resident using the menu View/Financial. We use an
interest rate of 5% and a payment period of 30 years
and assume the debt does not increase.
You can change values, like the interest rate (we used
5%) or the peiod.
Tap the row below labeled "Payment ..." to select it.
Tap the Edit button. The Financial View will
automaticaly open.
Change the percent from 5 to 6. Tap the Enter button
on the Financial View and tap the Enter button again
on the Standard Keypad to complete the Edit.
The new payment amount will be updated.
